Niagara Gorge Rim Restoration

ASLA Merit Award for Planning and Analysis

edr published a study for Wild Ones, a nationwide organization promoting natural landscapes, examining the potential for ecological restoration of the Niagara gorge rim. The study, which was funded by the Niagara Greenway Commission’s Ecological Standing Committee and the City of Niagara Falls, proposed the removal of the maligned and underutilized Robert Moses Parkway from the gorge rim.

Master planning for the six Monroe County Parks located around Irondequoit Bay was completed in 2009. In 2010, Monroe County authorized a single design contract to implement a suite of park improvements that were prioritized in the Master Plan.

edr restored a neglected and overgrown historic garden to its former status. Hidden behind six town houses in downtown Albany, the garden was rediscovered during the recent restoration of one of its enclosing buildings. Originally conceived and created by the late master gardener Richard Stott Anderson, the garden is a piece of a network that was once a larger country garden formerly known as the The Lark Street Gardens. edr provided comprehensive site design, contract documentation, and construction oversight for the initial site development and two subsequent expansion phases for this corporate headquarters.

The key elements of the design were new parking lots, entry drive, and walking trails integrated within system of retention/detention ponds surrounded by native plantings and created wetland areas.
